Police said the family of one of the dead victims has filed the case on Sunday night.

Tongi police OC Md Firoz Talukder said the case accuses the owner and seven other officials of the company as well some unidentified persons.

The fatal fire broke out early on Saturday at the packaging factory after a boiler exploded.

Owned by former BNP MP from Sylhet Syed Mokbul Hussain, the Tampaco Foils packaging factory was set up in 1977.

“The chairman (Hussain) has been absconding since the incident. Arrests are yet to be made,” said OC Talukder.

It is not clear what charges have been brought against them.

The cases filed over the 2012 Tazreen Fashions fire and the 2014 Rana Plaza collapse accused the owners of manslaughter due to negligence.

The Gazipur district administration has formed a five-member probe body to investigate the mishap.

The fire service and the government’s Factory Inspection Department have also launched separate investigations.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
